Apologies

- by New Deal democrat

I have been swamped by real life this week, and haven't been able to pitch in here.

I'll finish looking at potential leading indicators for pre-WW2 recessions next week, and hopefully some other stuff. Weekly Indicators will be posted Saturday morning.

In the meantime, there may be more doggie pictures from the proprietor of this blog later today.

That sounds very interesting. The NBER has a statistical record of every recession since the 1850s. Christine Romer (Journal of Pol. Econ.) and Stanley Lebergott (1957) has estimated pre WWII unemployment rates. There is quite a big divergence in their estimation of the unemployment rates during the Panic of 1907. Romer says it was a mild recession, while Lebergott says it was more serious. I say this because I thought that the Panic of 2008 and the Panic of 1907 shared a lot of similarities.
